At the today "Labour Day" just one did its job: the weather forecast!
Finally it kept from A to Z what it has promised. It kept sunny and dry on the entire 311 km. Only one moment we get some 5-10 drops of rain, but that was it. It could be a bit warmer, but there are always some things.
In the morning Uwe, Esteban, Stefan, Helmut, our newcomer Alex and mine one met at the bridge and after a fast breakfast and a refreshing coffee it went first across the city to Mitte.
The way was a bit hard. Not only that the direct route over Strasse des 17. Juni was closed, some more streets were not available because the march of the unions so we had to take some detours.
Our destination was the place between Berlin Cathedral and Old Theatre.
Here the "Berliner Suppenschüssel" (Berlin Soupbowl) stands, a well system with its especialness, that it is build of just one stone. A big foundling was blasted at the beginning of the 19 th century and the dish was formed.
We went on the search for the point of origin of this stone and left Berlin via B2 to north. At the agreed meeting point we took Dani, Hardy and Peter (another newbie).
With nine bikes it went further to north over Schwanebeck, Bernau, Albertshof, Breydin, Gersdorf and at Niederfinow we passed the ship lift. Via Eberswalde we passed Cloister Chorin and turned at north to Brodowin to take a beautiful plates road along Parstein lake to reach B158, where short in southern direction at the district Neuendorf of the city of Oderberg our next destination layed. Here the "Big Stone" is to be found, the rudiment of a trimmed founling with a rest bulk of about 200 tons.
Butt his stone is not the origin of the "Soupbowl". It was planned for it, but the stone was to soft for trimming and for the transport and it bursted while on transport to Berlin. About this disaster once Goethe wrote about in his works.
We went to the near lying restaurant "To the big Stone", where we had our lunch break and regarding the season we tasted some asparagus in all of its variations.
Starched we saddled the steeds
and started to south to the Rauen mountains. It went on a beautiful side road over Bralitz and further on B158 over Bad Freienwalde, Wollenberg and Leuenberg and turned off on sides roades again. We passed Straußberg, Rehfelde and Zinndorf and over Hangelsberg and Fürstenwalde and reached just behind Rauen. On the last rest area we inserted a short break
but did not found the power to take the last footpath of about three kilometers to the Markgrafensteine (Margrave Stones). It was on of these stone the "Soupbowl" was made of. Of about one twin stone it is reported, that there is a princess captured inside. 500 years ago the Satan himself locked up the princess and her crying can be heard every night. But there is hope! If someday a Sunday child would go at midnight on Johan night (June, 24) with three white raven threetimes around the stone without taking breath, the stone will burst and the princess will be freed! We didn't count on our chances and started out to a coffee stop at Wendisch-Rietz.
It went over Kolpin, Reichenwalde and Dahmsdorf to the Biker meeting point, which was very rarely be visited and limpingly weg get a cup of coffee.
Afterwards it went on way home again. Alex, Peter and Stefan took the direct way home via motorway, while the rest of the group went after a refuel stop on side roads over Storkow, Philadelphia (no joke), Kummersdorf, Friedersdorf, Koenigs Wusterhausen, Ragow, Dahlewitz, Großbeeren and Gueterfelde and than over A115 back to the bridge again.
Here the dace into may layed in its final stage and we just snatched some grilled sausages. After a small talk everyone started home looking forward to the warm house, because it get could at end (9.30 pm).
It was a nice trip, which let hope fort he coming weekends. If the right temperatures for the sunshine will come, then the saison is finally back!
Up to next time!
